It is very important when purchasing all used Cisco hardware that the equipment has valid and intact serial numbers. If the product is missigng or incomplete that is a possible indiciation of a stolen hardware.
Know your dealer:
Ask for references. Any legitimate company dealing in used Cisco and used Juniper should be willing to provide names and numbers of satisfied customers.
How long has the dealer been in business?
The age of a business is a good determining factor of legitimacy. Many companies have a brick n mortar presence and are just expanding their customer base with an online presence. Other new online dealers are just around to make a quick buck and disappear like a magician. Be sure to ask about the age and past of the company before making any decisions to purchase.
Customer Service ?
Check the responsiveness you receive from emails and customer service department before you decide to make any purchases. Taking to machines and delayed email response times are not a good indication of a cusomer friendly company.
What is the testing process?
Do not hesitate to ask the dealer about the testing procedure they perform on their refurbished Cisco and used Juniper hardware. If they are unsure or do not sound confident, this might be a indication that they do not have a rigorous testing program intact.
Difference between Refurbished and Used?
By definition a refurbished product refers to "old or used computer equipment that has been restored to like-new working condition and/or appearance or computer devices that have been sent back to the factory to fix a flaw." Make sure to ask if you are getting a used product vs. a refurbished equipment. And also ask if the warranty is the same for both.
